Jamielle Rankine-Kirlew - JRK

Creative Director. Writer. Entrepreneur.

Born in the city of Kingston, Jamaica. Jamielle Rankine-Kirlew alias JRK, is a Creative Director, Writer, and Owner of the clothing brand, MUMA.

MUMA, is Jamaican patois for mother. Staying true to her roots and story Jamielle wanted to create a brand that showed beauty through penury and luxury. Inspired by minimal, classic and uncommon details with a feel of cultural references. Each design is handmade by Jamielle with love and care. She earned a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles; truly living in her purpose in creating art you wear.

MUMA was awarded the “Best in Innovation” Award in 2019 at Orange County Fashion Week. MUMA has also worked alongside celebrities such as Tina Knowles Lawson, the mother of Beyoncé, for their annual WACO Gala where she sewed their Ankara Fabric room.

Not only is JRK known for her passion for fashion but also for her storytelling abilities. Jamielle has been compared to Maya Angelou in the way she recites her poetry; a great honor as Jamielle admires her work.

JRK is a published poet and has recited her work at the University of California Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, private events and more.

Jamielle is a self-taught writer and poet with great zeal to uplift all people through her poetry with honest and vulnerable writing topics ranging from, but are not limited to: love and hate, heartache and anger, life’s battles and victories, imagination, and the timely grace of God. She is currently writing her first book of Anthologies. Learn more about JRK’s poetry here.
